The Arado Ar196 was the standard seaplane of the German Kriegsmarine and operated from battleships and cruisers. Between 1938 and 1944, more than 500 were built and proved particularly successful in reconnaissance and submarine hunting. The agile aircraft offered its two-man crew excellent visibility and, thanks to its robust design, was able to take off and land even in rough seas.
